Now this is most certainly one of the happiest “ta-dah”-posts ever ……
A close call too, to make it for this week’s “Follow-up Friday”: just a little over an hour ago I crocheted the very last stitch on this blanket and could start taking pictures (with which I’m pretty much going to bombard this blog post!).
If you’ve followed my “Bétaille Blanket”-journey over the past few weeks, you must have noticed that finishing this blanket was quite the undertaking. During the lengthy – and sometimes tedious – process I fell in and out of love with it several times.
However, as soon as I could start laying out the 600 tiny squares and began joining, the love for this project was there again, wholeheartedly.
Reading Nerissa’s comment last week – “a week of joining, yikes” – I obliviously thought it would take me (way) less than a week, but as it turns out her remark was spot on.
Joining 29 rows of 20 squares was all I did crochet-wise this past week …..
In the end I did not use all 600 squares that I crocheted, simply because the last 20 tiny grannies consisted of mainly three colors and I didn’t like that.
So, “only” 580 it is ….. I played with the thought of a colorful border – maybe by bringing back all 8 colors used in the blanket? – but decided against this once I was done joining. Tried a simple picot edging, but no ….. I think it’s pretty the way it is right now. Sometimes more really is less!
The “Bétaille Blanket”-facts:
* size: 165 x 215 cm, 580 little granny squares
* pattern: Springtime Throw by Nicki Trench (from her “Cute & Easy Crochet”-book)
* weight: 1554 grams
* yarn: Katia Capri, 100% cotton
Now to decide which old wip to tackle next ….. seems smart to pick a not too time consuming one for a change …..
Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
Love,
Marianne xx

Gorgeous blanket. Well done – I know I wouldn’t have the patience to finish it… even though I’d start with the best intentions! The end sewing it must have been a nightmare?

Totally gorgeous! I admire your patience. The thing I like least about crochet is sewing in the ends so to do this for 580 squares is amazing. Enjoy your beautiful blanket xx

Simply stunning and well worth all the time and effort invested into it! You could always add a border at a later stage if you see fit. I’m not sure if a border would add a nice finishing touch or detract from the main event, so to speak. Whatever you decide, it’s gorgeous as-is:)
