In a recent post I already told you about Santa Clause’s big brother, Sinterklaas, who’s responsible for even more December-festivities in The Netherlands!
Today we’ll be celebrating “Sinterklaas” with our extended family, some 10 people. Not the traditional way though, no we’ll be playing the so called “dobbelspel”, a bit of a silly, but fun party game.
The essence of this “dobbelspel”: every participant buys 2 little presents (€ 5,– max), and they’re put on a big pile. Then the rolling of the dice can start. As soon as all – still wrapped – presents are divided over the number of people present, the real game starts. Every number on the dice (1 – 6) is connected to a certain action (like: everyone has to give his/her presents to the person left of him/her, give someone else’s present to another person, etc, etc). I’m sure it’s going to be pretty hilarious …..
Gearing up to our “Sinterklaas”-gathering, I’ve kind of all gone out in the crochet/diy department, and I’ve truly enjoyed doing so!
This might be somewhat less interesting for you lovely non-Dutch readers, but I’m sure your creative brain can think “X-mas” when seeing my “Sinterklaas”-projects ;).
First, I made a “Welcome Sinterklaas”-wreath, and I have just hung it on our front door. Inspiration was this pattern on Wolplein. I covered the wreath with some jute fabric, that I cut into strips, added the moon, some “pepernoten” and heart candy: oh….. I really love how it turned out!
Next up: “Sinterklaas”-votives ….. cut-outs, printables found here, here and here: fun!
A “pepernoten”-wreath was constructed as well (tutorial by Janneke/JipbyJan, to be found here). As an added bonus my workspace smells soooo good ……
No proper “Sinterklaas”-holiday without sweets! Using this easy tutorial on (Babbe Bora’s very inspirational blog) I made white chocolate with sugared puffed rice, and a very special “Sinterklaas” Rocky Road (tutorial – in Dutch – here, for Rocky Road tutorials in English, click here).
Last but not least, I just finished baking some cake-presents …..
Just bake a simple poundcake, cut it in little squares and rectangles, decorate with fondant – simple but effective.
Happy “Sinterklaas” to everyone who’s celebrating this fun holiday as well!
Love,
Marianne xx
Creating all of that must have been as fun as the celebration itself.
