Pick out three colors that combined you think will make a great “Hey Hat”
Hook size 10 mm (US: N/15)

Round 1 – with all three strands together, crochet 4 chains, close to make a ring with a slip stitch in your 1st chain.

Round 2 – crochet 3 chains (= 1st dc) plus 11 dc’s, close this round with a slip stitch (12 dc’s).

note: from this round onwards, you’ll crochet your dc’s only in the back loops of the “v” ‘s that are formed by the top of the dc’s made in the previous round(s).

Round 3 – In this round we’re going to double our stitches, by crocheting 2 dc’s in every dc crocheted in round 2. You’ll start with 3 chains (= 1st dc), then crochet 23 more dc’s (24 dc’s). Close with a slip stitch.

Round 4 – crochet 3 chains (=1st dc), 1 dc in next stitch, 2dc’s in next stitch;
next: * 1 dc, 1 dc, 2 dc’s **; repeat: from * to **, close with a slip stitch.

Round 5 – 3 chains (=1 dc), 1 dc in next 5 stitches, 2 dc’s in next stitch, repeat: * 1 dc in next 4 stitches, 2 dc’s in next stitch **, close round with a slip stitch.

Round 6 – chain 3 (= 1st dc), 1 dc in every stitch.

Repeat round 6 until your “Hey Hat” has the desired length (I crocheted a total of 10 dc-rounds for mine; remember, to still crochet in just the back loops of the little “v” ‘s).

Last round: Finish your hat off with a last round of sc’s.

Adorn the hat with a fun pom pom, and “ta-dah”, your one-hour-hey-hat is ready to wear!
